Le Safran du Ventoux

Marie and François Pillet have worked hard to cultivate a precious garden around their charming bed and breakfast, the Aube Safran. For more than 10 years, they have reintroduced the cultivation of saffron to Vaucluse.

Crocuses are cultivated just outside the Provencal farmhouse, located in the Dentelles de Montmirail just above the village of Barroux. Here, everything is done by hand, from planting to packaging, in order to preserve the qualities of the spice and package it beautifully. South-Facing, the small 200-300 m2 plots flower in October. This period of work is intense and meticulous, especially considering that 200,000 flowers must be pruned to obtain just 1 kilo of spice! The three guest rooms and two suites each combine old and new (linen fabrics, patinas, whitewashed walls), with natural decor based around the cultivation of saffron.
