Vaucluse is one of the biggest French producers of black truffles or ‘Tuber Melanosporum’. During truffle season, from November to March, you can visit the truffle market, cave with a truffle grower, take a cookery course or simply taste the famous truffle brouillade.

Stage 1: Richerenches, capital of the black truffle

Approximately 1 hour from Avignon and Valence, 1 hour 50 from Marseille

On Saturdays from November to March, visit the impressive wholesale truffle market with the Tourist Office, where sellers and wholesalers meet. After a visit to the Musée de la Truffe et du Vin, (the Museum of Truffle and Wine), you can taste the truffle spreads.

Have lunch at the restaurant l’Escapade, a truffle omelette and organises cooking classes (for up to 6 people).

stage 2: from Richerenches to Valréas for truffle hunting

Meet Christian Merin at his truffle plant nursery in Valréas, for a presentation of truffle plants and a demonstration of truffle hunt.

Stage 3 : from truffle to wine

33 km, around 45 minutes – access for minibus

Situated in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, with a panoramic view of Mont Ventoux, Chêne Bleu is a renowned wine estate in a former mediaeval priory. Their wines are biodynamically produced using sustainable practices, with wine and food workshops organised from spring to autumn.

There is an option to stay overnight in the 5 guest rooms, or in one of the various accommodation options located less than an hour away(Château de Massillan 4* in Uchaux, Hôtel Montmirail 3* in Gigondas, Hôtel du Midi 2* in Visan, Château de Mazan 4* in Mazan, and Hôtel de Cambis 4* in Avignon…)
