Erected in the 13th century by the king of France near the famous Pont d'Avignon, Tour Philippe le Bel was a part of the fortress of great strategic importance, guarding the entrance to the town and offering a panoramic view over the whole of Provence. Inside, magnificent vaulted rooms house a permanent museum area.
Inside, its beautiful vaulted rooms now house a permanent museum space named "Mémoires de tour". The exhibition, available in French and English, explores a number of themes: the figure of King Philippe le Bel, the history of the region of Avignon from the Carolingian era to the time of the French Revolution, the medieval construction of the Pont d'Avignon, as well as the 3D reconstruction of the landscape surrounding the bridge at different periods of history.
