Doms Garden

The gardens boast fantastic views - over the old town, the river, the countryside and the Rhône plains, all the way to Mont Ventoux.

Since the 18th Century, these gardens have been a popular strolling spot for Avignon inhabitants and visitors, providing a pleasant escape from the summer heat, with its lake, lush trees and rock gardens. The gardens are open every day, with opening hours varying according to the season (between 7:30 am and 10 pm).

A wide lane winds up to the top, starting from Popes' Palace square. Lovely flowers and shady trees line the lane. You can also walk up to the top from the other side, on the Sainte Anne stairway (behind the Popes' Palace), or from the banks of the Rhone river. There is a small tourist train that leaves from the Popes Palace square which also drives up to the gardens.

Young children are free to play in the playground, watch the swans and feed the ducks that play on the water. Ice creams and other treats are for sale in the gardens.
