In the foothills of Mont Ventoux, 750 metres above sea level, Aroma Plantes is a family-run organic farm specialised in the production of aromatic and medicinal plants.
The Liardet family grows true lavender (lavande fine), Lavandin, common sage, savory, helichrysum and dozens of plants to discover on foot on two marked trails along their fields. The distillery, which is open to the public, transforms the production onsite so essential oils and floral waters can be offered as well as dried plants. New since 1 July 2013: an Aromatic’ Bar!
This 65-hectare farm, most of which has long belonged to the family, has been producing a lovely range of aromatic and medicinal plants for some three decades adapted to the high plateaux of the Val de Sault. In addition to lavender, lavandin and some twenty plants and conifers, it also produces einkorn (Petit Épeautre de Haute Provence), the ancestor of modern cereals now covered by an IGP (Protected Geographical Indication). Some plants are cultivated, while others are gathered in the wild, like wormwood and wild carrot, as well as cedar, pine and juniper wood.
During harvest, you can watch the distillation of plants (most of which are dried first) in three stills that are in function most of the year.
Starting from the distillery, there are two marked paths to discover the countryside and fields of plants along the trails at your own pace.
2.3km amid fields of lavender, lavandin, savory, rosemary…
Difference in altitude: 30 metres
3.5km in wilderness with true lavender and sage…
Difference in altitude: 100 metres
